Valerie is a woman whose life exemplifies service to her community and her country. After retiring as a teacher and United States Army Captain, she’s ready to serve the 25th District of Georgia with the same unwavering passion and dedication she has demonstrated in all aspects of her personal and professional life.
Since she was a child, Valerie has always felt a call to lead and help those around her. She answered that call in her 17 year career as a Signal Corps Officer in the United States Army and as a teacher of 32 years in the classroom.
Over the years, she’s served in numerous leadership positions in several educational and community-centered organizations:
Additionally, her service as a board member of the Community Prevention Alliance Workgroup (CPAW) allowed her to collaborate with local citizens to create strategies that curbed alcohol and substance abuse in her community.
Service is equally as important to Valerie’s family as it is to her personally. She met her husband of 16 years, Steven Rodgers, while they were both actively serving in the military. During those years, their lives have been enriched with raising six daughters and two granddaughters. Valerie’s aspirations to serve as State Senator of District 25 are shared and supported by her family.
“The best way to find yourself is in the service of others.”

I will be a leader in the effort to expand Medicaid in the state of Georgia so that all communities have access to high quality medical care.
I will fight to ensure that all citizens have equal access to the voting process, unhindered by unjust and unconstitutional restrictions on an individuals right to vote.
As a former educator, bolstering our education system, retaining and retraining its teachers and increasing their salaries is a top legislative priority.
